Eban Corona
Eban Corona Capstone Theme: United States of America
My name is Eban Corona. I am 14 years old. I have been living in Portland, Oregon my whole life. I like to play soccer and skateboard. I’ve been playing soccer since I was six years old. I have been skateboarding since I was young too, but then I stopped for several years and just started again over spring break. My average weekend consists of hanging out with friends, sleeping in, and playing ps4. My favorite food is probably homemade caprese salad or tacos. I’ve been doing ceramics since 6th grade. In 7th grade I got an honorable mention Scholastic award for one of my sculptures, and this year I won a gold key for my sculpture titled, “American Delight.” I also won a silver key for two other sculptures.
My capstone is 3D Art (ceramics), and my theme is the United States of America. I chose this theme because all of my work represents the USA in some way. My work represents American delicacies, stories, evolution, and comedy. I like to make my work based on things I’ve seen on the internet or in my own life. I look forward to seeing my sculptures finished because I have the idea in my mind and seeing it in 3D is one of my favorite aspects of the process. I also work with the idea of memory. For example, one of my pieces that I won a silver key for, “New Jersey Delight” is a memory I have from going to New Jersey each year and eating Jersey Mike's Subs. I made the sub look the same as the one I would always get in New Jersey, the Original Italian. I also make sculptures of heads. They consist of different expressions, shapes and they also have connections to each other. I like to make them express different emotions, and I also like to make them humorous.
